Is Adult Tetanus an Endemic in India?

Background: Tetanus is a life-threatening disease in developing country like India, with high morbidity and mortality rate. Though maternal neonatal tetanus eliminated, adult still remains boom overlooked. Methods: An observational descriptive study using retrospective secondary data was undertaken among the patients admitted to regional referral hospital epidemiological factors influencing tetanus, clinical features outcome of tetanus. Results: Analysis 41 clinically diagnosed cases showed that, majority were 50-69 years age group who resided rural area agriculture their main occupation. Case fatality rate 53.6% which revealed that major outcome. And 95% those infected not aware immunization status. Conclusion: early diagnosis, proper wound management immediately after injury, health education programs create awareness public neglect even trivial injuries would definitely lead India path elimination Strong emphasis be laid on beyond 10 years.
